Counseling Center at MacKay Fisherman's Village
Counseling TeamWe are full-time counselors licensed by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. With the help of administrative staff, part-time counselors, psychiatrists, research assistants, and a group of parents and student volunteers, together we serve all students and parents, as well as faculty and staff. |
Services to promote Psychological Well-Being• Psychological Testing. We provide information to faculty and students as references for effective teaching and learning. Psychological measurements include surveys conducted for “Shake Hands with Freshmen” and “Shake Hands with MacKay Folks” as well as other types of psychological testing instruments such as the Exploration of Living Rainbow. • Psychological Education. We offer a series of psychology courses and hold educational programs for students, faculty, and staff to promote the competency of self care and care for others. • Community Cooperation. Since most of the students live on campus, we have the privilege to encounter students in many situations. We cooperate with students and faculty to improve our school environment, including planting the gardens. We also arrange outreach opportunities for cooperation with disadvantaged people in the local as well as the remote indigenous communities. • Natural Health Promotion. Sponsored by the National Science Council and the Ministry of Education and commissioned by the Forestry Bureau, we promote the concepts and action of natural health. We went to Taitung to implement gardens with people who were affected by the recent flood disasters. We developed an Agape Trail on campus, and launched a course entitled, “Health Promotion through Horticulture”. We also conducted a series of research projects on Forest Health Advancement in the Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area. The objective was to bring people into the outdoors to experience the natural environment firsthand and improve their health. |
Counseling Center FacilitiesUpper Fisherman's Village is located on the first floor of the Student Dormitory, near a small pond. Students may come to read or bring laptops to search for information in a quiet Study Lounge. Individual or group counseling sessions are served in the Chat Room. In the Performance Room, faculty and students are welcome to show their wild ideas or genuine emotions. People may come to play music, watch movies, join group activities, or just bring a glass of water, and sit and do nothing. Lower Fisherman's Village is located on the third floor of the First Teaching Complex. There are books and newspapers to read. This is a place for students to refresh their minds between classes. Small rooms in rainbow colors serve as space for counseling, various activities, and meditation. We are open during regular office hours, evenings, and most of the weekends. |
Future DevelopmentIn a Christian school, we hope to inspire dialogue between faith and science. We are learning to integrate professional counseling and spiritual caring. As we serve others, we too are blessed by God’s grace. At MacKay Medical College, we serve with the humility to “Wash One Another’s Feet.”
